UV protection

Lubricate the face with sunscreen or not? - That is the question. Our answer is always the same: "Yes, every day, regardless of the weather." Effective sun protection is an integral part of Asian beauty care. It can even be said that it is an Asian way of preserving a youthful complexion. How does it look like with us? Everyone already knows probably that UV radiation has a negative effect on the skin. However, not everyone knows that regardless of the season and the weather, our skin, especially on the face, is exposed to its negative effects.

If you are reading our blog while lying on the beach, we must worry you - chances are good that after reading the rest of our article, you will start a desperate search for a cream with a UV filter and an umbrella. The reality however can be brutal… especially for our skin. In this article, we will only focus on how the sun's rays affect the appearance of your skin. Are you ready?

There are 3 types of radiation:

UV-C - this radiation is absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere and does not reach us. Whew!

UV-B - this type of radiation is felt more on sunny days (especially between 10 am and 3 pm), because it does not penetrate the clouds and windows.

UV-A - this radiation works all year round and neither clouds nor window panes will protect us from it.

Therefore, we will focus all our attention in this article on the effects of UV-A radiation, and from now on we will simply refer to them as UV radiation.

When UV radiation hits the skin, it can be reflected, dispersed or absorbed, and therefore its intensity will vary on different layers of the skin. You must know that the degree of skin sensitivity to UV radiation also depends on your skin type. People with dark complexion are less sensitive to the sun's rays than people with fair skin. Regardless of your skin color, however, if you do not use appropriate anti-UV protection, you will not miss photoaging, which is a direct result of long-term exposure to UV radiation on our skin.

Skin photoaging - what is it?

It would seem, that photoaging of the skin is a fresh topic when you hear about it for the first time. Nothing could be further from the truth! The first negative impact of excessive skin exposure to the sun was observed by the German dermatologist - Paul Gerson Unna, who lived in the years 1850 - 1929. Doctor Unna, observing sailors in the Hamburg seaport, linked the deteriorating skin condition of these men to the influence of sunlight. Over 100 years have passed since then!

You are probably curious now how it is possible that the sun that you love so deteriorates the condition of your skin. Well - as a result of the impact of ultraviolet radiation on the skin, transcription factor AP-1 is activated and increased production of free radicals that damage the collagen fibers in the skin. Collagen fibers are the main building component of the skin as they account for over 70% of its dry weight. It is the condition of collagen fibers that determines the external appearance of the skin. After some time, the negative effects of the lack of UV protection can be seen on the face with the naked eye. The skin becomes thickened, wrinkles and folds become visible and the complexion is rough to the touch. The former glow, elasticity and firmness of the skin are slowly fading away. Sounds scary?

Unfortunately, you have no influence on the physiological aging of the skin. It is a process that begins regardless of your will. However, you have a significant influence on preventing the skin photoaging.

Creams with anti-UV-A and UV-B filter

You already know what skin photoaging is, now it's time to dispel another myth about UV creams. The most common mistake made by people who use sunscreen is using the wrong cosmetics, i.e. cosmetics that only protect against UV-B radiation.

The word SPF (Sun Protection Factor) alone does not mean that the product will also protect you against UV-A radiation. On the packaging of such a cosmetic, there should be an information on protection against UV-A or symbols: PA +++ or PA ++++. Only such markings guarantee that the cream also meets the requirements related to protection against UV-A radiation.

The Skin79 offer includes both skin care creams marked with: PA ++++, as well as BB creams with an anti-UV-A filter, thanks to which you can perform everyday makeup.

If you do not use makeup or you want to first apply SPF cream to your face and then do makeup, we recommend skin care creams marked with PA ++++.

Here are the creams that you can find in our online store:

Skin79 Protective Cream Waterproof Sun Gel SPF50 + PA ++++ is a waterproof cream that does not whiten the skin and has a light texture, so it can be easily spread on the skin and leaves no greasy traces. It contains both mineral and chemical filters (about which we will tell you in the next articles in the series: UV protection). The cosmetic has been enriched with many plant ingredients, such as: chia seed extract and aloe leaf extract, which moisturize the skin and have a soothing effect. Roman chamomile oil and Asian pennywort extract have anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Thanks to these ingredients, the cream can also be used by those struggling with acne.

BENTON Protective Cream Papaya-S Sun Cream SPF50 + PA ++++ the formula of this cream has been enriched with 4 substances obtained from papaya fruit: papaya hydrolate, papaya seed oil, fruit extract and papain. All these ingredients, thanks to their gentle exfoliating, whitening, cleansing and smoothing properties, restore the skin's radiance, smooth it and soothe inflammation. The cream also contains firming adenosine and niacinamide - strengthening the skin's hydrolipid barrier.

BENTON Protective Cream Papaya-D Sun Cream SPF38 / PA +++ like Protective Cream Papaya-S, it also contains papaya extracts and vitamins A, C and E, but has a slightly lower SPF factor. It has been enriched with the Aquaxyl optimal moisturizing technology, which helps replenish water and maintain proper skin hydration as well as panthenol soothing irritation.

SKIN79 Water Wrapping Moist Cool Sun Stick SPF50 + PA ++++ is a cooling stick for the face that has an extremely light texture. After using the stick, the skin is slightly illuminated. It includes aloe vera that moisturizes and soothes the skin. The stick has been developed in a technology based on Alaska glacier water and minerals from ocean waters, which provides a wide nourishing and moisturizing effect for the skin.

Regardless of which protective cream you choose, remember that we always apply SPF creams before applying makeup. Never the other way around! After applying the SPF cream, wait a while to be sure it is well absorbed. Thanks to this, you will avoid the so-called the effect of foundation rolling on the face.

Are you a fan of quick solutions? No problem - check out the BB Creams section and choose the foundation that best suits your expectations. All BB creams that you can find in our online store also have filters that protect against both UV-B and UV-A radiation.
